You might think that the internationally fashionable variety Sauvignon Blanc has only recently become established on Lake Balaton and perhaps only came to the region with the arrival of Canadian Robert Gilvesy. Far from it. Far-sighted cooperative winegrowers who knew the terroir of their homeland very well persuaded the local cooperative in communist Hungary to plant Sauvignon Blanc on the north side of Szent György-hegy as early as the 1970s. A brilliant decision, as is evident today when you taste this Sauvignon Blanc from 45-year-old vines from the MOGYORÓS single vineyard. The first things you notice on the nose are the aging in wooden barrels and the smokiness. Then a mixture of exotic fruit, citrus freshness and demanding, drying saltiness. Sparse, almost bitter in the finish. Very unique and doesn't need to hide from any of the great Sauvignon Blanc appellations in the wine world.
