The Kestener Paulinshofberg vineyard lies upstream as an extension of the neighboring Brauneberg vineyard. This south-southeast facing vineyard, adjacent to the Juffer vineyard, is named after the estate of St. Paulin's Church, which cultivated the land as early as the Middle Ages. After falling into obscurity several decades ago, this historic site was reclassified as a VDP.GROSSE LAGE (Grand Cru) in 2019. The soil here contains a high proportion of weathered blue and gray Devonian slate, as well as, unlike the neighboring Juffer vineyard, loamy clay slate.
The result is a highly elegant wine with intense, bright fruitiness, hints of dark berries, and a long, pure minerality. Flint adds minerality to the nose, while delicate stone fruit aromas, refreshing citrus notes, and a touch of dark berries contribute to the fruitiness. On the palate, ripe fruit, floral and herbal aromas are paired with an immense, spicy-earthy minerality. A long finish with delicate salinity, fresh herbs, and elegance.
