The Girlan Winery Cooperative was founded in 1923 in a historic 16th-century farmhouse. At that time, 23 winegrowers laid the foundation for the operation as it exists today. Behind these traditional walls and in the extensive cellars lie modern cellar technology and optimal storage conditions for the wines. The winery was modernized in 2010 to meet current technical standards. Today, around 200 winegrowing families cultivate approximately 220 hectares of vineyards in the best locations of the Überetsch and Unterland regions with great dedication and motivation. Cellar Master Gerhard Koßer maintains close and personal contact with the winegrowers and advises them during the growing season. This exchange of experience is a crucial basis for the pursuit of the highest quality. The goal is, on the one hand, to highlight the historic grape varieties, and on the other hand, to produce wines with a distinctive character through the cultivation of international grape varieties that are nevertheless rooted in the region. The illustrated labels are designed by the artist Paul Flora. The loamy, medium-weight, and warm soils in Girlan, as well as in Neumarkt and Mazon in the lower Adige Valley, where the winters are mild, promote the growth of Gewürztraminer in a very special way. The grapes are harvested by hand and delivered in small containers. The grapes are gently pressed, and the must is clarified from the lees through natural sedimentation. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, followed by aging on the fine lees. Color: Straw yellow. Aroma: Delicate. Taste: Robust yet harmonious.
