The Stettener Pulvermächer was first mentioned in 1650. In the nearby quarry, the Pulvermächer (old job title for explosives expert) carried out blasting. It is a south-southwest slope with a gradient of up to 60%. The vineyards of the site surround the Y-Burg. The most valuable part of the site, however, are the old stone terraces directly below the castle, in which the heat is stored particularly well. It is precisely in these stone terraces that the Riesling grapes of the Grosses Gewächs grow on vines that are up to 50 years old. It is probably the oldest and best-known Riesling site in Württemberg. The siliceous sandstone soils are barren, which means that the vines have very deep roots and form the basis for a mineral, elegant wine. On the nose, the Pulvermächer is much finer and more reserved than other Rieslings from the winery. You can almost smell the calcareous soils. On the nose there are citrus aromas such as lime and hints of orange zest, and some stone fruit can also be detected in the background. Very creamy and powerful on the palate. A very precise acidity forms an ideal counterpoint. Then the vibrant minerality with the typical saltiness delights here too. This wine is already very enjoyable to drink, but also has very high aging potential.
