The term "legend" should be used with caution. However, no one would disagree that the Forster Ungeheuer is a Palatinate legend. Basalt, marl, and red sandstone are the predominant soil types. The basalt provides warmth, the limestone provides freshness and salinity, and the red sandstone provides richness. This combination allows the wine to be very present without sacrificing elegance. Matured 100% in large wooden barrels. Still at the very beginning of its development, the nose already reveals exotic fruit paired with a delicate spice. The palate is mineral, with plenty of punch and a taut, wiry texture. A little of everything, but never too much of any one. Incredibly precise.
