Incredibly focused and pure, the power married to a wonderful vibrancy that pulls you over the palate at a brisk clip. Long, very elegant finish. Drink from release." Stuart Pigott/James Suckling Location & Terroir Vineyard: The Winkeler Jesuitengarten is 26 hectares in the immediate vicinity of the Rhine between Winkel and Geisenheim. The vineyards face south-southwest and are slightly inclined. To the north is part of a historic "Clos", a large vineyard wall that keeps out cold air flowing along the ground. This makes the Jesuitengarten one of the warmest vineyard locations in the Rheingau. This creates a microclimate that promotes early budding, flowering and ripening. The name Jeusitengarten comes from 1606, when the Archbishop of Mainz handed over the St. Bartholomae Chapel (which is still hidden on the northern edge today) and the associated vineyards to the Jesuit College in Mainz, which owned the vineyards until 1773. In the lower part of the Jesuit Garden you will find floodplain soils from the former banks of the Rhine, which consist of sandy loam with gravel and sand deposits. At the northern end, a bench in front of our shelter invites you to linger and look out over the Rhine. Terroir: floodplain soil with sand and gravel deposits, in the lower part also calcareous loess
