Invigorating acidity, delicate enamel, fruity finale Location & terroir Vineyard: The Winkeler Jesuitengarten is 26 hectares in the immediate vicinity of the Rhine between Winkel and Geisenheim. The vineyards are south-southwest oriented and slightly inclined. To the north is part of a historic "Clos", a large vineyard wall that keeps out cold air flowing on the ground. This makes the Jesuitengarten one of the warmest vineyards in the Rheingau. A microclimate is created that favors early budding, flowering and ripening. The name Jeusitengarten dates back to 1606, when the archbishop of Mainz handed over the St. Bartholomae chapel (which is still hidden on the northern edge today) with the associated vineyards to the Jeusitenkolleg in Mainz, which owned the vineyards until 1773. In the lower area of the Jesuit Garden one finds alluvial soils of the former banks of the Rhine, which consist of sandy loam with gravel and sand deposits. At the north end, a bench in front of our refuge invites you to linger with a view over the Rhine. Terroir: Alluvial soil with sand and gravel deposits, in the lower area also calcareous loess
