98 points "This great dry Rheingau masterpiece is still very young, it's power and concentration clearly perceptible, but the aromatic and mineral complexity is only just beginning to show itself. And in spite of this it remains medium-bodied. With aeration in the glass, the dried flower and candied orange aromas slowly open up. Incredibly long, structured finish. Drinkable from release, but best from 2026." The name can be derived from two other possibilities: Rodenberg in the sense of making arable or clearing, or it refers to the red color of the soil. The size of the vineyard is 44 hectares, of which 5.44 hectares are classified as "Große Lage". With a south-southwest orientation and a slope of around 40%, it is probably one of the winners of climate change. On the oldest site classification map in the world from 1867, rediscovered in 2011, this site is already listed as one of the first class sites in the Rheingau. Since 2005, this vineyard has set the German record for must weights three times. In the record year of 2011, TBAs with must weights of 259°, 319° and an incredible 340° were harvested in Rothenberg. 2015, 2016 and 2017 are the last vintages to date with the optimal conditions for TBAs. The must weights harvested were 170°, 190° and 230°. Terroir: Taunus quartzite, interspersed with red clay slate (iron oxide).
