Complex, extremely multi-layered nose. The terroir literally jumps out of the glass. Very good balance of stone fruit (yellow plum) and sweet spice (mace, coriander seeds and licorice). Top structure, appealing mouthfeel. Powerful on the palate with fine tannins, a touch of Assam tea on the finish. 93 POINTS CUP OF THE GOURMET WORLDS Location & Terroir Vineyard: The Geisenheimer Rothenberg was first mentioned by the noble Ruthard de Rothenberch in 1145. The name can be derived from two other options: Rodenberg in the sense of cultivating or clearing, or it refers to the red color of the soil. The size of the vineyard is 48 hectares, of which around 6 hectares are classified as “First Growth” locations. With a south-southwest orientation and a slope of around 40%, it is probably one of the winners of climate change. On the world's oldest vineyard classification map from 1867, which was rediscovered in 2011, this vineyard is already listed as one of the 1st class vineyards in the Rheingau. Since 2005, this vineyard has set the German must weight record three times. In the record year of 2011, TBAs with must weights of 259°, 319° and an incredible 340° were harvested in Rothenberg. 2015, 2016 and 2017 are the last vintages to date with the optimal conditions for TBAs. The must weights of 170°, 190° and 230° were harvested. Terroir: Taunus quartzite, interspersed with red slate (iron oxide).
