According to the principle of the first wines of Bordeaux, the first Geheimrat "J" was vinified with the 1983 vintage. The internal quality requirements for this wine are still above the standard for Erste Gewächs. Geheimrat "J" is only vinified in good to excellent years. In rather weak vintages, such as 1984, 1987 and 1991, no Geheimrat "J" wine was produced. The wine is sold together with the Grosses Gewächse. Terroir: Combination of the minerality of the Rüdesheim and Geisenheim mountain sites with the fertile, deep loess soils of the central Rheingau.
