The Doctor is an exceptional vineyard. And as the largest owner, we can really draw from the full. Impressive aromas with concentrated fruit power (mirabelle plum, vineyard peach, lychee), plus white tea, dried lemon thyme. Extremely powerful, mineral, enormously juicy. The most elegant Doctor we've ever had. Location & Terroir In 1900, at the height of the Moselle Riesling, Julius Wegeler had the unique opportunity to buy part of the heart of the Bernkastler Doctor from the Mayor at the time, Kunz. The price at that time of 100 gold marks per stick surpassed everything that had previously existed and was the subject of lively discussion in the industry. Wegeler acquired 4,300 square meters, whereby the price not only included the vines, but also the historic Doctor cellar from 1650 and the wine stored in it. Another purchase in 1910 made the Wegeler wineries the largest owner in this historic location. An investment whose far-sightedness has endured to this day: the Doctor is still the most expensive vineyard in Germany. The legendary Bernkasteler Doctor rises with its steep slope directly above Bernkastel at a height of 125 meters to 200 meters above sea level. According to legend, it got its name from Archbishop Boemund II, who, having healed from a serious illness, described this situation as the "true Doctor". Internationally, Doctor wines are always at the very top. With 3.26 ha one of the smallest individual vineyards in Germany.
