The Haardter Herzog site covers 35 hectares and is located on the edge of the Palatinate Forest. The ancient Rhine deposited its sediments here, with lots of red sandstone and pebbles, as scree. Together with the limestone marl, it provides the ideal basis for a mineral-rich premium Chardonnay with its own unique character. After spontaneous fermentation, the wine is aged partly in new and used barriques. The use of wood is almost perfect and only very subtly noticeable. The site has a wonderful combination of the soil and the coolness of the climate, which allows the winemakers to create a very precise Chardonnay. The nose is still subtly fruity, and on the palate there is a great tension between body and elegant acidity, something you rarely find in a Chardonnay. There is a lot of freshness, a slight reduction and saltiness in the glass. A wine with good aging potential.
