A new chapter begins with the 2024 vintage: Our CHARTA Riesling is released for the first time under the name BTHVN – a tribute to one of the world's greatest composers and to a friendship unparalleled in German wine history. Franz Gerhard Wegeler, Julius Wegeler's grandfather, was a close confidant and lifelong friend of Ludwig van Beethoven. Their bond – fueled by music, spirit, and mutual trust – dates back to the 18th century. Today, it lives on in a wine that, like Beethoven himself, stands for poise, depth, and character. The BTHVN Riesling is a classic CHARTA Riesling – dry, rooted in its origins, and stylistically clear. The CHARTA movement, co-founded by Wegeler in 1983, still stands for the timeless style of dry Rheingau Rieslings: precise, complex, balanced, and aging-worthy. With the 2024 vintage, Wegeler is deliberately elevating the quality of this wine to a new level – to do justice to its great name. BTHVN comes exclusively from classified Grand Cru vineyards in the Rheingau, is selectively harvested, and, depending on the vintage, matured in large wooden barrels or stainless steel tanks. BTHVN is not an entry-level wine, but a statement. A quiet soloist with a long finish – and a cultural commitment: €1 from each bottle sold goes to the Beethoven-Haus Bonn Foundation, supporting young musical talent. Location & Terroir Vineyard: A cuvée from our excellent vineyards in the middle and lower Rheingau, stretching from Hallgarten to Rüdesheim. For this wine (as for all Wegeler wines), no purchased wines are used, but exclusively grapes grown on our own vineyards. Terroir: A combination of mineral and soft soils.
