The Chardonnay comes from the upper clayey and limestone-rich area of the Pastorei vineyard. Although this location, characterized by tertiary sediments, is directly opposite the winery, it belongs to neighboring Bretzenheim and not to Kreuznach. The Chardonnay was spontaneously fermented after manual harvesting and whole-cluster pressing and aged for ten months in a used tonneau. The Bretzenheimer Chardonnay 2020 is a light straw yellow. The scent combines a present and at the same time elegant fruit of predominantly yellow apples and pears as well as some Reineclaudes with a slight addition of Meyer lemons. The fruit combines with hints of blonde tobacco and ripe almonds. On the palate, the single-site Chardonnay is juicy and fresh with a clear and precise fruit of pome fruit and citrus fruits, which bring in a slightly tart and piquant note as well as a lively acidity. The Chardonnay glides lightly over the palate. The wood used frames the fruit, but remains discreetly in the background. The wine is characterized by a minerality and a powerful acid structure that makes the Chardonnay shine brightly.
