Vineyard Location & Terroir: The Bernkasteler Badstube is actually a large vineyard area with the status of a single vineyard site and comprises the six best Bernkastel sites: Lay, Bratenhöfchen, Matheisbildchen, Graben, Alte Badstube am Doctorberg, and also the Bernkasteler Doctor. Facing west-southwest with varying slopes, the Badstube covers approximately 50 hectares. The name likely dates back to the Middle Ages and refers to the hot springs in Bernkastel that were used as bathhouses. Terroir: Stony, fresh weathered clay slate soil.
