Location & Terroir Vineyard: The Bernkasteler Badstube is actually a large site with the status of an individual site and is made up of the six best Bernkastel sites: Lay, Bratenhöfchen, Matheisbildchen, Graben, Alte Badstube am Doctorberg and also the Bernkasteler Doctor. Facing west-southwest with slopes of varying steepness, the Badstube covers around 50 hectares. The name probably goes back to the Middle Ages to the hot springs in Bernkastel that were used as bathhouses. Terroir: Stony, freshly weathered clay slate soil.
