We were looking for a Pouilly-Fumé for a long time. As one of the great Sauvignon Blanc origins in the wine world, the appellation, which covers just over 1,000 hectares, is always somewhat overshadowed by its larger neighbor Sancerre. Both origins on the upper reaches of the Loire have single-variety Sauvignon Blanc as a grape variety and the typical limestone soils, some of which are interspersed with flint. These produce the typical smokiness that is said to have given the AOP its name: "Fumé" (French for smoke) was simply added as a suffix to the place name of the small town of Pouilly-sur-Loire, which lies on the right bank of the Loire. Light yellow with subtle greenish reflections in the glass. Lots of citrus fruit, hints of bergamot and aniseed. Lots of pressure and tension on the palate, with a nice melt that, despite all the saltiness and minerality, does not make the wine seem too austere, but rather ensures good balance and exceptional drinkability.
