2023 once again showed how important it is to have old vines in your vineyards in the hot Rhône climate. Their deep roots ensured sufficient water supply even during the extreme heat wave in the second half of August. A robustness and resilience that is still lacking in young plants, which had to struggle with the heat. In this white Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Grenache blanc, Roussanne, Clairette, Bourboulenc and Piquepoul flow into the cuvée. No vine is younger than 50 years. The cuvée name GALETS D'OR is a tribute to the large, distinctive pebbles that characterize the terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. A beguiling nose: light tobacco, meadow herbs, linden blossom and lots of white nougat. As open as the nose is, the white Châteauneuf-du-Pape is still closed on the palate, although it has an astonishing freshness and acid structure. The alcohol content of 13%, which is rather moderate for the appellation, is perfectly integrated. At the moment it is still characterized by a minerality that dominates everything else. Lots of potential.
