Max's is a tribute to Max Schubert, Penfolds' legendary first cellar master and creator of the Grange. From 1948 to 1975, Max Schubert was the brilliant mind behind the winery. An experienced winemaker, but always open to new, old and different things, in order to bottle only the best. His wines became icons, and his quality benchmark still applies today. Max Schubert traveled to Europe early on to look at the methods there and to pick up one or two ideas. He also discovered the wonderfully drinkable, pastel-colored rosé wines that inspired Penfolds to create Max's Rosé. With no contact with wood, the Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir retains its fragrant aromas of wild strawberries, citrus fruits, cinnamon and anise. Lively, seductive on the palate, with a fine acid-sweet balance and long-lasting freshness.
