In 2018, 55 years later, the 2,555 bottles we kept see the light of day as a new edition called GRAN FAUSTINO 1955. They are a true reflection of Faustino's specialty of making wines perfect for aging. A "Grand Reserva" Rioja wine as it came from bygone times, never to be repeated and spoken of with admiration by connoisseurs from all over the world. Produced mainly from Tempranillo grapes blended with other grape varieties, following the traditions of the classic "Grand Reserva" wines from Rioja. They are wines with a unique personality. The grapes come from the vineyards near the winery, since transport was then carried out in baskets on the sides of horses or mules. The grapes were not destemmed and only gently pressed to start fermentation. Mainly aged in American oak casks, albeit with touches of French casks, because in our historical archives Bodegas Faustino had French oak casks at the time, quite an innovative event in Rioja. The nose is very intense and extremely complex. Sweet notes of dried fruits (prunes, raisins, figs). On the palate, a bouquet reminiscent of a spice shop (turmeric, bay leaf, coriander...). Dry sensations (dry lowlands), tobacco leaves. Reminiscent of olive wood and black olives.
