The Season One of the best vintages in decades.
Ample water reserves kept the vines healthy despite very dry weather conditions. Mild and consistent temperatures and winds helped to ease the slow and even ripening. Quality was exceptional with intense colour, freshness and great flavour.
Varietals: A blend of Syrah, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc; selected from five different vineyards across the Western Cape area.
Harvest: Extreme care and thorough selection. Grapes are hand-picked in small batches, carefully hand destemmed and meticulously sorted twice prior to gentle manual crushing.
Vinification: Alcoholic fermentation in both French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, with strict temperature control and regular breaking of the cap for optimal extraction.
Maturation: 18 months in partially new French oak barrels from six different cooperages.
Tasting: Notes Rich and multi-faceted bouquet of ripe black cherries, blackthorn, cassis, pimento, Malabar pepper, fine vanilla, subtle Garrigue spices, delicate smoky minerality, dark chocolate and liquorice. Overwhelming richness in the approach without being heavy; layer after layer of highly complex fruit develops on the palate; cherry compote, lingonberry, wild plums, mulberry juice and dried forest berries shape the aroma. Distinct notes of tan, mocha and black truffle add deeper dimensions. Perfect tannin quality frames the palate without showing any tension; delicate acidity leaves amazing freshness on the tongue.
A world-class wine with immense character, earthy minerality and delicate fire in an impressive finish linger endlessly. Perfect marriage of intensity and elegance.
