2019 is classified by some winemakers as another top year in the same row as 2015 and 2016. The year was meteorologically quite contrasting: cold, heat, drought and rain were equally present. After a cool spring, a very dry late summer, but luckily there was enough rain before the harvest. The first impression is extremely inviting: roasted aromas from the wood (perhaps a touch less than in the 2018 vintage), vanilla, violets, a ripe dark cassis fruit that promises sweetness. On the palate then really a lot of extract sweetness, roasted chestnuts, toast and liquorice. As a small contrast to this, subtle pyrazine notes of nettle tea and elder leaf. Lots of tannin with a good grain for a long life, surprisingly round for the youthful stage. Despite all the strength and power, it's already a surprisingly charming Bolgheri.
