Admittedly, the distinction between DON VINCENZO and Gran Selezione is sometimes a bit confusing at first glance, especially when Giovanni d'Orsi produces both wines from 100 percent Sangiovese in the same year. But at the latest after opening the bottle, the differences become clear. First lots of new wood in the sense of roasted chestnuts, caramel and malt. But then a very fresh, dark fruit takes over in combination with herbal and spicy notes: sour cherries, incredibly fresh, complemented by blackberry leaves, dried thyme and liquorice root. In the mouth, the impression of freshness is retained and even intensified. This acid structure is all the more remarkable given the typical vintage and 15% alcohol. Sour cherries again on the palate, plus tomato paste and elder leaf. More elegant and at the same time more direct in the attack than the Gran Selezione. More fresh fruit, less fleshy, and the tannins are a bit more polished. In the finish, with its mixture of fresh acidity and drying minerality, it is puristic, almost strict and at the same time extremely animating. Not only a very individual, but also a great wine. Supplied in a wooden box of 6.
