After the challenging 2017 vintage, 2018 was a 'normal' year in the Chianti region, without any real weather extremes. However, as the harvest approached, it became increasingly dry: the vines went several weeks without rain. But temperatures never reached the peak levels of 2015, and thanks to cool nights, the grapes retained their freshness. The nose offers plenty of toasty aromas, less vanilla, but more coconut, dark tobacco, and pine nuts. Juicy dark cherries and plums, licorice, and tomato leaf. Noticeable freshness comes from the acidity and herbal notes, along with a lingering, saline minerality. The tannins are fine-grained and currently quite firm. As is often the case, the Riserva is a touch more classic than the Gran Selezione or Don Vincenzo.
