For many tasters, 2016 was a tad better than the previous year, 2015, which was already a really good vintage. The quality of the 2016 is also due to the fact that the vegetation cycle of the Nebbiolo grapes was perhaps the longest in decades. In other words: The Nebbiolo, which takes a long time to fully ripen anyway, was able to reach its optimal physiological maturity under almost ideal conditions. This also means that 2016 is not only a vintage that convinces with a lot of power and opulence when young, but also that it is a vintage that can be stored extremely well. A vintage that is definitely worth putting aside top baroli like the R56. Intense balsamic and floral notes paired with strong sour cherries, plums and roasted chestnuts.
