In the exceptionally hot and dry year of 2021, the location and the work of the winemakers in the vineyard were once again crucial for producing top-quality wines. The Lemberger grape variety, known as Blaufränkisch in the Austrian Burgenland region, has proven its ability to thrive in the hot and dry Pannonian climate. In 2022, Moritz Haidle was able to harvest fully ripened grapes in the Stettener Häder vineyard, and the wonderful aromas also have a touch of Burgenland character. Selectively hand-harvested, the grapes underwent spontaneous fermentation on the skins and were aged in barriques with a certain proportion of new oak. The wine then matured on the fine lees for about a year before bottling. The nose offers typical herbaceous and ethereal notes, followed by a wealth of fine dark fruit including black cherry, plum, blackberry, and a hint of dates. On the palate, it is densely structured, very rounded, approachable, and powerful, yet never overly concentrated. Spices, forest floor, and a touch of blond tobacco also emerge.
