The Catholic parish church in Dernau still owns this plot of land – hence the name. The particularly favorable southern exposure and the slope, combined with the easily warmed soil, create a beneficial microclimate. The greywacke found here is a granular, scree-like sediment cemented together with fragments of clay slate to form a sandstone-like structure. This results in the parish vineyard producing exceptionally fragrant wines with subtle fruit and delicate spice. The aromas range from dark red forest fruits and earthy minerality to floral notes, tea aromas, and a hint of eucalyptus. Here, too, a significant amount of new oak was used in the aging process, but it never overpowers the style, remaining harmoniously integrated.
