Exceptional producer meets exceptional vintage, so it is not surprising that the 2016 Château Pontet-Canet, even in Pauillac, which is not poor in highlights, has a special position for the 2016 vintage. On the one hand this is certainly due to the biodynamic way of working, and on the other hand to the company's own philosophy, which is not based on the classic, rather conservative Pauillac style. The grape variety composition in 2016 consists of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. The high physiological maturity that makes the wine surprisingly accessible is certainly defining the vintage. The complex nose leaves nothing to be missed, the finest dark fruits of plums, cherries, cassis, accompanied by all kinds of spices. On the palate there is a nice freshness, spice and an earthy note, paired with a lot of pressure and tension. The wine is characterized by an unbelievable harmony throughout, which is certainly unusual at this early point in time. A great depth and minerality as well as a velvety tannin structure complete the impressive overall picture. A monument! In the future, however, this wine will tell us even more about its diverse history. The story is just beginning. Delivery in a wooden box of 6.
