In addition, there is the black pepper that is often typical of Syrah, which harmonizes wonderfully with the silky tannin that gives it backbone. Anyone who has had the opportunity to stand in the vineyards below the ruins of the Chapelle Saint Pierre will find the terroir reflected in the wine. There is this special ethereal spice of the wild Mediterranean herbs growing there and a fine fleshiness that recalls the red, iron-rich soils. With good concentration, the wine is both fresh and stimulating.
