As the name suggests, the Hautes-Côtes are slightly higher, above the Côte de Nuits. The vines are slightly higher to protect them from frost in winter.

Domaine Gros, which has an exceptional vineyard heritage, owns plots in this region from which it makes the most, well beyond the standards of the appellation.
