The Cabernet for Montes Alpha comes from the rather flat or gently rolling sites of the Montes wineries, where the vines grow on predominantly stony soils, deep in Apalta and flat in Marchigüe. The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand, the wines are transferred to stainless steel and concrete tanks for biological acid reduction and finally aged for twelve months in French oak (50% new barrels); only a portion remains in the concrete and is only blended back into the cuvée shortly before bottling. Deep ruby red with elegant, complex aromas of cherries, red berries, crème de cassis, spicy hints of cigar box, black pepper and the warm roasted notes of barrique aging. Powerful, expressive and lively, with ripe, distinctive tannins and a long aromatic finish.
