Launched in 1987 as a Cabernet Sauvignon and Chile's first premium wine, Montes Alpha now represents a whole range of premium wines. Montes Alpha Merlot comes from two Montes wineries in the Colchagua Valley: the Merlot from the weathered granite soils of the El Arcángel de Marchigüe winery, and the small percentage of Cabernet Franc from the Finca de Apalta. Only the best grapes are selected, gently fermented, and the wine is aged for twelve months in French oak barrels and concrete. Juicy aromas of ripe dark plums, berries, sweet spices, and a hint of mint blend with elegant oak notes of cedar and vanilla. Perfectly balanced, full-bodied, and smooth with gently matured tannins and vibrant freshness. Beautiful to enjoy now—or over the next 8–10 years.
