The Penfolds Bin 21 Grenache is a tribute to Penfolds' long tradition and craftsmanship. For decades, the winery has used a numbered "bin" system in the cellars of the Magill Estate, where the first bottled wines were aged. The renowned Bin series, introduced in 1959, represents the careful selection of the finest grapes from prime vineyards and combines regional and varietal characteristics with the unmistakable Penfolds style.
The Bin 21 Grenache comes from old vines in the Barossa Valley, some dating back to the 1930s. Grenache has been established in the soils of the Barossa Valley since the 1840s and benefits from the warm, dry climate, which is similar to the grape variety's regions of origin in Europe. The first Cellar Reserve Barossa Valley Grenache was produced in 2002 and remains sought after by collectors today. To mark the 21st anniversary of this special wine, the new Bin 21 number was awarded – a sign of the continuation of this remarkable Grenache tradition at Penfolds.
