At the southern end of the Roter Hang, the Orbel lies a little away from the Rhine in a side valley. Here, too, the red slate floor is omnipresent. Unlike in Pettenthal, however, it is not the bare slate rock, but fine slate gravel. At night, the side valley, which is open to the west, acts like a nozzle through which the Rhine sucks in the cool air from the surrounding area. This leads to significantly cooler night temperatures. The coolness preserves the acidity and so the Orbel innately has a lively acidity that makes the wines seem almost playful. The wine presents itself with a cool and herbaceous nose. On the palate it is clear and delicately juicy. Ripe to overripe peach notes with a hint of apple harmonize with herbal aromas and a subtle saltiness. The lively freshness of the wine is clearly noticeable and gives it a certain draw. With a zesty appearance and firm body, he shows both strength and backbone.
