Location & Terroir Vineyard: The Bernkasteler Badstube is actually a large location with the status of a single location and is made up of the six best Bernkasteler locations: Lay , Bratenhöfchen , Matheisbildchen , Graben , Alte Badstube on Doctorberg and also the Bernkasteler Doctor . Orientation west-southwest with slopes of varying steepness, the Badstube covers about 50 hectares. The name probably goes back to the Middle Ages on the hot springs in Bernkastel, which were used as a bathing room. Terroir: Stony, fresh clay slate weathered soil.
