The Chardonnay comes from the upper clayey and calcareous area of the Pastorei site. Although this location, which is characterized by tertiary sediments, is directly opposite the winery, it belongs to neighboring Bretzenheim and not to Kreuznach. After hand-picking and whole-cluster pressing, the Chardonnay was spontaneously fermented and matured for ten months in used tonneau. The Bretzenheimer Chardonnay 2020 is a light straw yellow. The scent combines a present and at the same time elegant fruit of predominantly yellow apples and pears as well as some greengage cloves with a slight addition of Meyer lemons. The fruit combines with hints of blond tobacco and ripe almonds. On the palate, the Chardonnay is juicy and fresh with a clear and precise fruit of pome fruit and citrus fruits, which bring in both a slightly tart and piquant note as well as a lively acidity. The Chardonnay glides over the palate with a light glaze. The wood used frames the fruit, but remains very discreetly in the background. The wine is characterized by vital minerality and a powerful acid structure that lets the Chardonnay shine brightly. Text by: Christoph Raffelt (www.originalverkorkt.de)
