Finally a Veltliner in organic quality from such a renowned location as the Kellerberg in Dürnstein! In the premium area in the Wachau, extremely ripe grapes and also botrytis are often used, this is definitely not the case here. Fresh, golden-yellow color with greenish reflections, notes of a wide range of yellow fruits such as mirabelle plum, greengage and vineyard peach, plus some honey and a fine creaminess, supported by a good acid structure and warm primary rock minerality. It is not uncommon for one to look in vain for the “pepper” that Grüner Veltliner is said to have in wines from the Wachau, but here it has a nice, refreshing spiciness with grated white pepper, mace blossom and wild herbs. Due to cooler conditions in the second half of the year, the 2020 GV Smaragd is a bit fresher, firmer in acidity and slightly lower in alcohol than in previous years, which we like very much.
