In 1981, Philippe Pieraerts and his wife acquired the breathtaking castle and its park, surrounding forests and vineyards. The winery, which covers a total of 130 hectares, of which 65 hectares planted with vines, is located on a promontory above the former course of the Garonne. The vineyards of Château Carignan extend on slopes of clayey clay soils, resulting in an ideal alignment of the vines on well-drained soils. One third of the vines are over 40 years old, two thirds between 10 and 20 years old. Of course, the reading is done by hand. The largest wine, the Prima, is a selection of the best parcels and has been vinified since 1998 by Louis Mitjavile (Château Tertre Roteboeuf). The wine matures for 18 months in new barriques.
