Karkadeh, also Malventee, called hibiscus tea, is an infusion drink, which is usually drunk hot in the growing countries.
For the preparation, the dried flowers of the hibiscus plant are brewed with water. After a few minutes, the infusion shows its red to dark red color and has a sour taste.
In addition to the dye Malvin tannins and mucilage are included. Except for its use as a beverage, tea is recommended for health problems caused by inflammation of the respiratory tract. Like other teas, tea has been considered a skin care product since antiquity, which improves the complexion of the skin. Karkadeh is a rich source of vitamin C, helps reduce tension and reduces blood pressure.
Malventee is common on all continents. In Northeast Africa (Egypt and Sudan) the tea is drunk as Karkadeh, other names are Sudantee or African Mallow. The Mallow Blossom is drawn from seed pods, which are grown on fields over large areas. Apart from a warm sun, these plants need a lot of water. The time to maturity is z. For example, in Africa about six months. The cut is done by hand, the flowers must be read individually.
The shelf life is almost unlimited in dry storage. For the needs of the population in the producer country, wholesalers buy up the quantities of farmers and then supply the bazaars nationwide. However, this distribution system mixes the different varieties of cultivation areas and has a lasting impact on quality. In hotels and restaurants Karkadeh is also offered as a tasty cold drink and used for dessert preparation.
